Describe the experience in how you found your mentorship. If you haven't found one yet, describe your experience so far in the search for a mentor.
As of right now, my home- health counseling mentor is a lovely lady named Joanne Carr. This summer I wanted to find someone who could effectively help me throughout my senior year. I struggled most of my summer finding people who would actually commit to the project I introduced them to but my grandma mentioned to me that she had a co- worker that happened to be a social worker. When I heard this, I asked for her contact information and Joanne was more than pleased to work with me.
Even though I now officially have a mentor, I am working with my house teacher to find a mentor for a totally different topic. Why? Well, I have always had the dream to be a model and when the school year started I realized, sure I am interested in counseling but I am passionate about modeling so why not give it a try while the school year is still early? It's not a definite change but it's definitely something I am trying to work on to become reality.
What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?
The most important article I have read so far on the topic of social work and counseling has been " Diabetes Management in Young People - Family Matters" which is about the importance of family support when a member is in need and how they all learn to contribute to the situation in some way and ways that make an illness not as stressful and smooth sailing.
