Joanne was really sweet and answered any questions I had and really took the time to understand what my senior project is about and the task at hand. After getting to know her and meeting with her a couple times I was put to work. I wasn't able to work with any patients due to confidentiality laws but I was able to do lots of office work. I was asked to file and copy a lot of documents. Another big task that I was given that made me feel really responsible for the work that I did was to find resources for patients. My mentor, Joanne, gave me homework that is really important to get right the first time around. I had to find transportation, senior centers, daycare programs and food programs in a certain amount of cities so that this information could be available to future families and patients. The homework is shown down below.

Straight to the Point
This summer I had some difficulty finding a mentor I could rely on and spend my time effectively with. I spent most of my summer trying to find someone who was willing to commit, but when I finally did in the beginning of August I was more than grateful. The first time I met my mentor, Joanne Carr we didnt waste anytime.

I plan to interview my mentor, Joanne Carr.
2. What questions do you plan to ask?
-I'm interested in studying counseling. What can you tell me about it?
-From your perspective, what could I study that would be significant?
-Who else would you recommend I talk to?
-What kinds of places or activities do you recommend I do for the mentorship component?
-What books should I read in this field?
-Is there anyway to work around rules to observe a patient?
-What qualities and skills are vital with the work you do?
- What past jobs or experiences led you to this point?

Summer Mentorship Component
1. Summer Mentorship Log
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-ee__Ca-_V5keiMgYz9p49xBdOXKpYL_uzaqqY0xG4k/edit
2. Mentor
Name: Joanne L. Carr
Contact Number: (562) 833- 0640
3. Some questions that were raised because of the 10 hours of experience were the following:
-What are the chances I will be able to talk to other social workers as well as working with Joanne?
-How often will I have to meet with my mentor?
-Is there any chances or conditions where I will be able to observe patients?
4.The most important thing I've gained from this experience is understanding the commitment it takes to be a social worker and certain skills that someone should have and that people have to learn to cope with what they see and learn to do this over time. These things are important because not everyone knows how to deal with certain situations due to how awkward it can be or uncomfortable and emotional it makes them and that skill is very important to learn.
5. My senior project is going to be on social work but more specifically, home- health counseling. I tries to get in contact with several mentors but working with Joanne has opened a lot of doors for me and gives me connections that I didn't have before and I think an experience that I can really benefit from and learn new people skills with the work she has done and skills that she has to offer me.
